PRE-PURCHASE ENGINE INSPECTIONS AND SEA TRIALS

Helping make an informed decision

When purchasing a new boat, the engine will often be the largest on-going expense so its condition should be thoroughly checked to inform you of any faults you may need to contend with.

Our marine engine inspection service is carried out by our marine engineer and includes:

  • Service and repair history check

  • External engine examination looking at corrosion, electrics, control cables and engine mountings.

  • Oil, fuel and coolant checks

  • Engine performance evaluating cold starting performance, smoke and engine-running performance and sound

An additionalm sea trial is also recommended by the marine engineer for a true test of engine performance, assessing:

  • How the engine performs under load

  • Testing of systems such as the gearbox, bow thrusters, power trim and trim tab systems if fitted. Generators can be checked in a similar way.
